KnockOut is a free tool to easily monitor whether or not Outlook is running on your computer. Amongst others, the application will give balloon notifications in the Notification Area when Outlook is being started and closed.
Even though this little application has been last updated in 2002, its core function still works with the latest edition of Outlook and even with the 64-bit version.
This application has been created by none other than Jensen Harris; The man who later came up with the Ribbon and many other ground breaking new user interfaces when he worked for Microsoft.
