Record gas mileage for Appointments, Meetings, Contacts and Tasks

Record Gas Mileage buttonEven though Outlook has a field to record mileage for various items, aside from the Tasks item, it is nearly impossible to fill it out quickly.

While you could customize your Appointment and Contact forms or create a Form Region to make the field more readily available, those solutions are a bit of overkill just for this field alone. Another way to enter it would be to use a list view and enable in-cell editing but that would be quite cumbersome when you need to do it on a regular basis.

This guide contains a code sample which you can use to quickly log and retrieve your mileage for a selected or opened Appointment/Meeting, Contact item or Task.

Outlook 2013 Update for July 2013

News

An update has been released for Outlook 2013 and can be downloaded and installed manually, but is also being offered via Microsoft Update.

Update:
There is a known issue with this update where Outlook crashes when you try to select or open an encrypted message (Application Version: 15.0.4517.1003 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Offset: 003ac9b5 is logged in the Event Viewer).

Microsoft has confirmed this issue but the update will not get pulled.

For now, if you are affected by it, it is recommended to uninstall the update. As it isn’t a security update, not having it installed won’t leave you vulnerable to anything.

Update 2:
This issue is fixed in the August 2013 update for Outlook 2013.

Update KB2817468 for Outlook 2013
This is a non-security update which solves 5 issues and also includes the 3 fixes of the June hotfix.

Most notable fixes are:

  • When you use a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) account in Outlook 2013, the [1] suffix is appended to the calendar names in the Calendar module.
  • When you select “Calendar Details Style” before you print or print preview a calendar in Outlook 2013, all calendar items are listed two times.
  • When you change the dots per inch (DPI) setting in Windows to a high value such as 125 DPI or 150 DPI, some icons in Outlook 2013 are displayed incorrectly.
