Windows 8.1 September 2014 update for Outlook: Fix for slow opening attachments

The optional September Update Rollup for Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 RT and Windows Server 2012 R2 brought 23 documented fixes and one of them is for the following Outlook scenario:

  • When folder redirection is used for saving attachments to a specific folder, opening an attachment could take a long time when the network connection latency is high.

For example, it may take more than 30 seconds to open a small TXT file.

As this fix is included in an optional update, it won’t be installed automatically. To install it, you must open Windows Update from Control Panel and click on the link about available optional updates. Select the update and click on the “Install updates” button.
